What is your background? What made you get into this line of work?
Since a very young age, I have been interested in website design and, more specifically, diving into understanding how various aspects can impact a person’s online experience. The way companies like Apple and Google create and develop new ideas has always been fascinating to me.
I began Ullaco Corp because I could see firsthand how many inexperienced web designers were out there offering a service that wasn’t meeting the primary objectives of businesses. I firmly believe every website design must have a comprehensive marketing strategy that considers the end-user experience.
If you could go back in time a year or two, what piece of advice would you give yourself?
Always hire the right people for the job. I may be the face of the company, but I know that the team behind the scenes is the reason why Ullaco is the success it is today.
What problem does your business solve?
Many businesses offer cheap website design, and while it is more affordable, it’s not providing a real solution to many companies. Many of the companies that come to us are looking to rank well on SERPs. They want to increase their overall online visibility and attract more customers. When you hire a company offering websites for $1,000 or less, you don’t benefit from a design created with the user experience in mind. It will lack the key components that attract and retain users.

What is the inspiration behind your business?
I created Ullaco Corp to provide a better solution for businesses looking to grow their online presence. We started as many companies do in – my basement. In my previous employment, I had seen firsthand that the web design services offered were not meeting the right needs of the end-user and the client.
That was really the motivation. Because I have a background in marketing and design, I decided to take my skills and see if I could offer local Canadian businesses a better option. Since then, we have grown from a web design company in Calgary to a complete digital marketing agency, providing services across North America.
What Is the Magic Sauce?
Our magic sauce is our ability to learn and grow continuously. Part of being a successful business, especially in this industry, is not to think you know everything. Things can and do change daily, and part of our role in providing the best service possible is to monitor those changes and learn from them.
What is the plan for the next 5 years? What do you want to achieve?
Our vision for the next five years is to continue to grow but on a global scale. We have plans to open international satellite offices over the next few years.
What is the biggest challenge you’ve faced so far?
Competition is great and is what drives us, and it’s also been our biggest challenge to date. There’s always someone new offering a lower price and lower quality for similar services to ours. Initially, Ullaco offered only website design and development, and we have since evolved into a digital marketing agency. A significant reason behind that is due to the competitiveness of our industry.
